Mutual Aid – Motorcycle Accident

03/13/13 – At 17:20hrs Station 60 was dispatched along with Marlin and Seltzer Fire Companies to the area of Seltzer Road and New Street for an MVA involving a motorcycle. First arriving units found a single vehicle motorcycle accident with the patient at the bottom of a 75’ embankment into a small creek. When R-63 arrived on scene, they immediately began setting up a haul system to bring the patient up the embankment. Once the patient was brought up, Pottsville Area EMS transported them to the landing zone so they could be transported by helicopter to the hospital. Rescue 63 was on scene for approximately 1hr. The Art of Reading Smoke Training

Members of the PFD and surrounding departments, attended a one-day seminar called “The Art of Reading Smoke,” at Pottsville Area’s D.H.H. Lengel Middle School. The class was hosted by five local firefighting organizations and the presenter was David W. Dodson, owner and lead instructor of Response Solutions LLC in Eastlake, Colo. Over 243 firefighters attended the 8hr seminar on how to read smoke so firefighters and officers can predict where the fire is located and how the fire is going to behave as time progresses.

The seminar was sponsored by the Pottsville Fire Department, Mahanoy City Fire Department, Schuylkill Haven Fire Department, Schuylkill County LEPC and Schuylkill County Emergency Services Training Center.

Mutual Aid – MVA with Entrapment

03/06/13 – Station 60 was dispatched along with Blythe Twp. & New Philadelphia Fire Department to the area of Valley Road, East of New Philadelphia, for a MVA with Entrapment. First arriving units found a single vehicle MVA with the car resting off road in a ditch. Crews worked to remove the roof and extend the doors for patient removal. Possible Structure Fire

03/01/13 – At 17:25hrs the PFD was dispatched to 613 West Arch Street for a possible structure fire. First arriving units had heavy smoke coming from the roof area. Upon further investigation, the smoke was coming from a faulty oil burner. The residence was then checked for Carbon Monoxide as there was a slight haze in the building. History of the PFD

There will be a presentation on the history of the Pottsville Fire Department on Wednesday February 27th at 7pm. The event will be held at the Sovereign Majestic Theater  and will be narrated by Mike Glore and Mike Kitsock. The event is free and open to the public.

Mutual Aid – Working Structure Fire

2/23/2013 – At approximately 0320 hours E-32, E-41, and RIT team members from throughout the department responded to Shenandoah to assist with a multi-alarm structure fire involving multiple residential buildings. The RIT crew set up on Jardin street and stood by while the fire was brought under control. E-32 established an additional water supply to the scene of the fire and assisted with suppression operations. Crews were on scene for approximately 5 hours before being released by command. MVA

1/28/13 At 10:23 hours, Stations 50 and 60 were dispatched to the Gordon Nagle Trail near the entrance to Indian Run for a report of a accident with people trapped. A Cressona Chief was passing by and stopped to assist. He relayed to city units that he had a SUV on its roof with one patient confined. Crews stabilized the vehicle and assisted EMS with patient care. P-1 had command. Photos by Yorkville Hose.

Forcible Entry Training

1/16/2013 – 30 firefighters from the PFD and surrounding companies gathered at station 50 for a refresher class on forcible entry. The class was led by Steve Schneider and covered multiple methods for forcing inward and outward swinging doors. Photos by Darren Boyer.
