Working Structure Fire

10/22/2011 – At 19:35hrs the PFD was dispatched to 264 Wallace Street for a reported structure fire. As units were en-route, county advised they received multiple calls stating there was heavy fire in the residence. E-41 was the first apparatus on scene and advised of a working structure fire. This then prompted command to dispatch the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department RIT team. While next in PFD units assisted with additional water supplies and throwing ground ladders to vent the roof, an aggressive interior attack was made and the bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished. Mutual Aid – Working Structure Fire

10/10/11 – At 07:52hrs the PFD RIT South Team (Stations 10 & 70) were dispatched to assist Cressona and Schuylkill Haven at 2417 Panther Valley Road, North Manheim Twp., for a reported structure fire. When Chief 41 arrived on scene he was faced with working structure fire and immediately requested his second alarm and to have the tanker task force dispatched. The second alarm then brought stations 50 & 60 from the city as well as other surrounding companies to assist on the fire. When Pottsville units arrived on scene, stations 10 & 70 setup RIT and stations 50 & 60 assisted with fire ground operations. Pottsville units remained on scene for approximately 2.5 hours. Odor Investigation

9/24/11 – At 05:25hrs stations 40 & 60 were dispatched to 124 Mill Creek Avenue for an odor investigation. When apparatus arrived on scene, personnel used Multi-Gas meters to check the residence and found it to be a low battery that set off the alarm. Smoke in a Structure

9/23/11 – At 08:09hrs the PFD was dispatched to 888 Gordon Nagle Trail for smoke in a structure. As units were en-route, county advised that workers could see a light haze of smoke and smell something burning. When apparatus arrived on scene, personnel used thermal imaging cameras to try and locate the source of the smoke. After a thorough investigation it was found to be a bad florescent light fixture. Mutual Aid – MVA with Entrapment

9/18/2011 – At 14:34hrs station 60 was dispatched to assist Summit Station and Friedensburg fire companies at 244 Summer Hill Road, Wayne Twp., for a MVA with entrapment. As units were en-route, county advised that the vehicle was located in a field and reported to be rolled over on its roof. When units arrived on scene they immediately began to stabilize the vehicle and setup air bags to lift the vehicle off the patient. When R-63/S-61 arrived on scene, they used additional cribbing, struts and airbags to free the patient from under the vehicle. Mutual Aid – Weather Event

9/7/2011 – At 23:49 hours Stations 10 and 70 were dispatched along with the Schuylkill County Incident Support Vehicle to repond to assist Pine Grove with flooding from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Several areas of Pine Grove were under 4 to 6 feet of water with heavy damage throughout the borough.  E-11, E-71, and E-72 provided fire protection services for Pine Grove Borough, Pine Grove Township, and Ravine during the incident, and also provided manpower for rescues.  L-51 and E-62 were called in to relieve E-11 and E-71 to cover the shift from 18:00 (9/8) to 06:00 (9/9).

Mutual Aid – Working Structure Fire

9/5/2011 – At 13:22hrs the PFD RIT South team (Stations 10 & 70) was dispatched to assist the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department at 15 Parkway Avenue for a Working Basement Fire. When the RIT team arrived on scene, the SHFD had the fire knocked down and was performing ventilation and overhaul. The RIT team setup on Side A of the structure and stood by for approximately 20 minutes until they were cleared from the scene. Photos by J. Morgalis

Mutual Aid – Smoke in a Structure

9/4/2011 – At 23:40hrs stations 20, 40 & 60 were dispatched to assist E. Norwegian Twp. at 146 Tunnel Road for smoke in a structure. When crews arrived on scene, they found a light smoke condition in the basement and immediately used Thermal Imaging Cameras to search for the source of the smoke. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that lightning struck an outside extension cord and shorted it out inside the basement of the house. Odor Investigation

9/4/2011 – At 22:39hrs stations 50 & 60 were dispatched to 24 North 24th street (York Terrace Nursing Home) for an odor investigation. As units were en-route, county advised that parts of the building were without power and workers were reporting an unknown type of odor. When apparatus arrived on scene, command upgraded the call to box alarm which brought the rest of the city stations to the scene. Crews used multiple Thermal Imaging Cameras to locate the source of the burning odor but the smell dissipated and everything checked out clear. At the time, a large thunderstorm with frequent lighting, was believed to strike a nearby utility pole that sent a surge of power into the building and tripped multiple breakers. Mutual Aid – Off Road Rescue

9/3/2011 – At 13:24hrs station 60 was dispatched to assist Mount Pleasant (Foster Twp.) for an off road motorcycle accident. Firefighters assisted with patient packaging and the patient was transported out of the woods to the awaiting Geisinger Life Flight helicopter.
