New Year’s Eve 1933 proved busy for area firefighters 85 years ago: Pottsville’s West End Hose Company assisted Minersville at a serious fire on Sunbury Street and then, along with other city companies, battled a fire in downtown Pottsville later that evening.
Thanks to everyone who participated in both the parade and numerous events throughout the week. We had a great turnout for the 60th Annual Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighter’s Convention. The Trophy Winner List can be found here or under the 2014 Convention Button.
The Pottsville Fire Department is currently preparing to put two new command vehicles into service. The 2014 Ford Police Interceptors will be used by the Assistant Chiefs and Duty Officers. The new Fords will be replacing the current Chevy S-10 Blazers. The new vehicles will also have a command area with SCBA storage, dry erase magnetic command board, and pre-plan storage. You will see these vehicles on the street once the communication equipment is installed.
On Monday, June 16th at 6pm, the PFD will be hosting a Public Safety Night Out at the Lower Rear Martz Hall Parking lot.
Rain Date will be Tuesday, June 17th.
The event will be held at the DHH Lengel School and will feature displays by the Pottsville FD, Pottsville EMS, Fire Safety Smoke House, MedEvac Helicopter, Pottsville PD, and the Schuylkill County Sheriff will have Ident-A-Kid kits. (See Flyer Below)
