11/28/2012 – At 06:32hrs stations 20 & 60 were dispatched to assist Port Carbon Fire Department at 231 Coal Street for a reported structure fire. As Port Carbon’s Chief 59 was en-route, he saw a large column of smoke which prompted him to hit his second alarm assignment which then brought stations 10 & 30 from the city as well. Port Carbon’s engine was the first on scene and had heavy smoke and fire showing from the structure. They immediately place attack lines in service to start knocking down the fire. When PFD units arrived on scene, L-21 immediately placed their ladder in service and went to the roof to vent, while crews from E-11, E-32 & R-63 assisted with fire attack. Due to the construction of the building, crews had to perform a lot of overhaul to check for extension and to extinguish the fire completely. PFD units remained on scene for approximately 6hrs.
